5-May Cinque Terre  (It is pronounced Cheen Kway Ter Ray  http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g187895-c140988/Florence:Italy:How.To.Day.Trip.To.The.Cinque.Terre.html:
It is a long day and takes approx 2.5 – 3 hours each way just for travel and usually involves some train changes (either at Pisa or La Spezia or both). It is a long day if you do this on your own, so you should plan on leaving Florence as early as you can to make the most of it.

On Sunday mornings in Summer there is usually a direct Regional train to all the  Cinque Terre villages, leaving Firenze S. M. Novella station about 07.45. This train also runs on some Saturdays and a very few other days close to national holidays.

On other days, you will have to change trains.  The fastest morning connection currently uses a Frecciabianca train from Firenze Campo di Marte station at 07.39.   Early morning options from Firenze S. M. Novella require the use of an Intercity or Frecciabianca train between Pisa and la Spezia, except for a Regional train to la Spezia leaving at 06.08 which is very slow.   From all of these, a change to a Regional train is necessary in la Spezia.    Buy your tickets in Florence all the way to your chosen Cinque Terre station, or you will have to buy another ticket in la Spezia.

Always check your train times on www.trenitalia.com first, clicking the UK flag first for English, as this page may be out of date at the time of consultation.  Click the UK flag first for English, then enter 'from' Firenze (tutte le stazioni') and 'to' the name of your chosen Cinque Terre village. Enter your 'hour' of departure as '5' for 05.00 to see all trains.   Use a date within one week of consulting the website to see the fares of journeys entirely by Regional trains.
For your return, later departures are possible from Monterosso and Riomaggiore than from other villages. The fastest return journey use the 20.07 Frecciabianca to Firenze Campo di Marte, but all other connections go to Firenze S. M. Novella.   Journeys entirely by Regional trains are the cheapest if buying on the day of travel.   On summer Sundays (etc. as above) there is a direct Regional train from all villages leaving around 18.30. You must validate (time/date-stamp) Regional tickets before boarding

7.20-8.23 Milan's Stazione Centrale direct to the lakeside town of Varenna (1:03 hr.) 6.7 28.14 http://www.reidsitaly.com/destinations/lombardy/lake%20como/lake_como_in_1_day.html
8.23-9.23 Varenna In Varenna, wander the terraced gardens of Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi—real die-hards in good shape might make a dash up the 20-minute path to see the Romantically crumbling ruins of Castello di Vezio with its fine lake views. Do all this in a hurry so you can board the 10:25am ferry (www.navigazionelaghi.it) for the 10-minute ride across the lake to the postcard village of Bellagio.
Villa Monastero - The Villa Monastero is at Via Polvani 4, the continuation of Via IV Novembre heading south from the center of town.  It is open  Saturday to Sunday 10am to 7pm
4.6 19.32 take boat to Bellagio
9.35-13.30 Bellagio  In Bellagio, walk out of the ferry dock and turn left to follow the main road, which almost immediately curves to the right to head steeply up to Piazza della Chiesa. This is where (at Piazza della Chiesa 14) you'll find the tourist office, which is where you'll meet your group for the 11am tour of the gardens and mansion of the famous Villa Serbelloni. (You must book this one ahead of time at tel. +39-031-951-1555 or +39-031-950-204—and it only departs if at least 6 people sign up; there's a second tour daily at 3:30pm.) Splash out on lunch in Bellagio at Barchetta (Salita Mella 13; tel. +39-031-951-030, www.ristorantebarchetta.com; closed Tues and late Oct–Mar) before moving on down the lake to the town of Como, famous for centuries for its fine silks.
You have two choices on how to get there: By bus: The bus from Bellagio to Como (www.sptlinea.it) takes 70 minutes, is more frequent, and costs a bit less. By boat: The far more scenic option is to take a 40-min cruise from Bellagio to Como along the lake's southwestern arm, sliding past elaborate villas surrounded by sumptuous gardens that run all the way down to the water's edge (www.navigazionelaghi.it). You might catch the 2:42pm ferry—which would give you more time in Como—if not, the next (and final) boat to Como leaves at 3:31pm (at 3:27pm on Sundays).
14.8 62.16 take boat to como
14.12-19.13  Como From Como's (www.lakecomo.org) cafe-lined lakeside Piazza Cavour and adjacent Giardini Pubblici gardens (containing a neoclassical rotunda called the Tempio Voltano, its clutch of exhibits devoted mainly to electrical pioneer Alessandro Volta; tel. +39-574-705; open 10am–noon and 3–6pm [2–4pm in winter]; closed Mon), make your way to the town's main square, Piazza del Duomo.
20.58pm Piazza del Duomo is lined by medieval buildings, including the zebra-striped Broletto (Town Hall) and Torre del Comune tower, and by Como's top sight, the Gothic-Renaissance Duomo (Piazza del Duomo, tel. +39-031-265-244; open daily 7:30am–noon and 3–7pm).
